The Department of Basic Education is considering a number of options to help salvage South Africa’s school year after the country’s lockdown was extended by a further two weeks, the Sunday Times reports.

Some of the possibilities being considered include:

Grade 12 pupils should be allowed to use the results of the September trial exams to apply for admission to universities next year.

This is the proposal of Professor Michael le Cordeur, head of curriculum studies at Stellenbosch University.

Usually, pupils use the mid-year examination results to apply for admission to universities and the September trial exams are normally used to gauge their performance ahead of the final matric exams.

But Le Cordeur thinks because of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, provincial education departments and the department of basic education should reschedule the June exams.

The Corona virus, COVID19, has put us under lockdown and many of us don't know what lies after lockdown. It's important we do not become complacement during this period and we use this time to plan out our options. A vision board is a great way to do this in a more impactful manner that you can keep as a reminder. A vision board, sometimes known as a dream board, consists of a collection of images that help you visualise the things you wish to manifest in your life. These can be material things, such as a home or a car, or situations, such as a dream job or relationship.

Here are 10 tips to help you create and use your vision board.

The Department of Higher Education (DHET) is preparing tertiary institutions for online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is one of the department’s plans to help the sector weather the viral storm, following the president’s announcement that the country is going into a three-week lockdown period from Thursday.

All universities and TVET colleges have already been ordered to shut down and are due to reopen on 15 April, according to Minister Blade Nzimande’s announcement on 17 March.
